End of Life Care and Support

Butterflies has a dedicated Pre-Bereavement Service that is linked to our End of Life Care Support service that is available to anyone who feels that they would benefit from support at the time of greatest need.

We believe that End of life care should be person-centred. This means focusing on the client’s needs as an individual and giving them the opportunity to make informed decisions about their care and treatment, in collaboration with their health and social care practitioners.

Our community based service is different and its unusual to be run by a community charity, but we are passionate about ensuring that anyone who has a life limiting illness, is able to access support when they need it.

We believe that there is a great need to be able to provide pro-active pre-bereavement care and support to both the client, families and carers, so that the journey from life to death can be managed clearly and more effectively.  It is important therefore to encourage people to talk openly about their own fears, wishes and plans and to ensure that these are recorded and adhered to wherever possible.

Our community pre-bereavement service and also the End of Life service is available to anyone in the community and is delivered by trained community bereavement buddies who specialise in this field of work.

Our service includes visits and support whether at home, hospice, hospital or care home and includes:

  • Advice and information support

  • Family Support Sessions

  • One to One supportive listening

  • Pre-Bereavement Support

  • Care and Support in the last stages

  • Post Bereavement Support
